Flash 55 - Tell It Like It Is

“Do you suppose she thinks that pink spiky hair looks good?” Mom said loudly
as we watched the mid 40’s lady with punked hair and tattoos down both arms
order her coffee.

Alzheimer’s has robbed the filter present during her adult life and taken her back
to the childhood “tell it like it is” years.

Flash 55 (x2) Megan's New Ears

(My 7 year-old granddaughter just got hearing aids, and she is delighted with them. It is opening up a new world for her.  This poem is for Megan, my beautiful fairy granddaughter.)

Look, Grandma

I’ve got new ears.

And you won’t believe

What all I can hear.

The noise rain makes

When it hits the ground.

The squeak of my bed

When I’m lying down.

The sound birds make

Close up and way far.

The ring of the bell

On my bike handlebar.

The sound of the wind

Blowing in the trees.

The buzz in the flowers

Of the bumbly bees.

The sound milk makes

When mom pours a cup.

The whoosh of a balloon

When dad blows it up.

So, no one has to shout,

They don’t have to yell.

Cause with my new ears

I can hear you real well.

Flash 55 - New twist to a character

I take the brunt of everyone’s weight ever day. What else am I supposed to do? It’s my job to be there for anyone that needs a respite. I’m cheerful, smooth, cool, and welcoming. Not everyone is comfortable with my color, but I try to be accommodating. It’s not easy being a chair at Starbucks.

PS I'm done packing and I can't stay away :)

Flash 55 - Market Furor of 5/6/10

What happened to the market today
Makes me want to take my 401K
And hide it in a box under the bed.
It may be safer there instead.

It's scary when a misplaced zero
Can create so much havoc and furor
Dropping 1000 points - well, it's just money.
Somehow, today it was not very funny.

Robin's Journey Flash 55

A part of me died with my sister when she passed away. This is literally true; she had one of my kidneys. Her compassion for others, her love of family and friends, and her courage through adversity are ingrained in my memory, and provide an example of how life should be lived to its fullest.

I am currently working on Robin's Journey to be posted soon.

Flash 55 1/15/10

1909
He was coming for Anna. Mary had to do everything in her power to protect her daughter. She gathered her swirling thoughts together, and focused on the one spell she had never attempted. Standing below Anna’s portrait, she tearfully hugged her daughter. Mary placed her wedding band in Anna’s palm, and clasping hands, she chanted.

Flash 55 1/09/10

Flash 55 is a Friday challenge issued by some new writing friends I have been privileged to join. You have 55 words to create a scene. Here is my first offering:

Jessie's Quest (she's 3)

Grandma, can I have some “Fruities”?
Go ask your Mom, Jessie. Only if she says it’s okay.
Mom, can I have some “Fruities”?
No, Jessie, it’s too close to lunch.
Grandma is fixing us grilled cheese sandwiches.
You’ll have to wait.
Grandma, Mom says it’s okay.
