Childhood memories

Do you remember when you were a kid and your only worry was what time your best friend could come out to play? Or how late you got to stay up? Or if your Mom was going to make you sit at the table until you ate all your peas?

At what age did we changed from carefree to careful? When did the boundaries of our safe neighborhoods shrink? The children of today have to make the transition from carefree to careful much earlier than the children of my era (the 1950’s). I love this picture because it reminds me of what fun it is to be carefree and full of laughter.

Think back to your childhood. What is one memory of you and a childhood friend that comes to mind where laughter was this spontaneous and contagious?

  1. I remember getting the giggles at all the wrong times, like in church or school with my friends beside me. Suppressing great laughter is a difficult task!!

  2. I agree! When my group of girlfrends are together in Ashland, we sometimes get the giggles! You never know what will set it off!

  3. I loved sleep-overs when I was a kid more than anything -- especially when there were 2 or 3 of us.

And what I love about 'big girl' friendships is how we can sit right down and whether it's been a week, a year or a decade since we last got together - we can just pick up right where we left off without skipping a beat.

  4. Yep, girlfriends are invaluable whether we're kids or adults.

  5. Such a great picture -- all that freedom!
It makes me think of my sisters and me. We got the giggles over the silliest little things - and still do when we are all together. My brothers-in-law just shake their heads and roll their eyes at us, whch, of course, makes us giggle all the more.
