She cupped them gently in her hands as she looked down in despair.
Grief slid through her when she tried to imagine them not there.
“God doesn’t give you more than you can handle,” she said out loud.
How in the hell was she going to handle this unexpected and frightening diagnosis of breast cancer?
(P.S. This is not me, but it is one of my Ashland girlfriends)
PW, I am so sorry to hear this about your friend. This is very poignant. She is fortunated to have such an understanding and caring friend like you...
ReplyDeleteIt's true, God does not give us more than we can handle. True for her and for you, PW.
ReplyDeleteThis is a hard diagnosis, but she can fight it. My mom and my aunt are both breast cancer survivors.
My grandmother was a ten year survivors before she died from ALS.
Have hope and remember the power of positive thinking. I'll send all the good vibes I can her way.
Your concern for your friend will helpt her during this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteI'll be praying for both of you.
Kathan - Thanks for your kind words. She is fortunate to have a wide circle of friends. Our Ashland group is only part of her support.
ReplyDeleteDayner - This sounds close to home for you. We are all sending postive thoughts and prayers to her and plan for her full recovery. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteShaddy - Thank you for your prayers! We are rounding up as many as we can for her!
ReplyDeleteThis kind of news is always so hard to hear. Believe me, the girlfriend network will be very, very important to all of you as you all go through this with her.
ReplyDeleteShe is a special person who has dealt with MS for many years. This is just such an unwelcome new addition to her health issues. Our circle of friends will be there for her, you can be sure of that. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCancer is always a devestating diagnosis. But breast cancer is so survivable, especially when caught early.
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt has battled a very aggressive form of breast cancer twice and won. She is batteling it again for the third time, but a prognosis of a third remission is promising. She has far outlived that expectancy that someone fixed to her over fifteen years ago. When cancer treatment was not as advanced as it is today. I know it is because of her strong faith and her friendships that she has the strength and the energy to keep fighting. Those two positives can undo a lot of bad news and that good energy is exactly what the body needs to heal.
Your friend is in my prayers. While walking I have some pretty good silent talks with God, and even my new cyber pals get into those conversations.
ReplyDeleteI know your support, and that of all her other loved ones, will provide so much strength and comfort.
Thanks DS and Jana for your positive thoughts. She is having surgery today (Wed). DS I appreciate hearing about your aunt and how well she has come through her struggle with breast cancer. Yet a third time. She must have strong faith, family and friends to support her throught all of this. An extra prayer today for Christiane would be appreciated.
